Greetings,

I am Dr. Ukamaka Smith serving as the Tallahassee faculty Co- Advisor for FAMU-SSHP. I am very excited to assist this organization for the 2023-2024 school year.

1. Why should students consider joining SSHP? Students should consider joining SSHP as it provides an array of opportunities for professional growth, career development as a future clinician, and networking. The world of pharmacy continues to advance and change from the traditional role of the pharmacist. SSHP allows students to get involved in the profession, stay abreast of advances in pharmacy, attend conferences, and network with other pharmacy students and clinicians.

2. Provide a fun fact that you are comfortable sharing publicly. A fun fact about me is that I love saltwater fishing. I did not realize how much I enjoyed it until I went for the first time in 2017.

3. How did your involvement in student organizations, such as SSHP help shape your pharmacy career? Joining SSHP was one of the best decisions I made during my pharmacy career as a student. Before joining, I was only familiar with retail and hospital pharmacy. SSHP helped increase my knowledge about the various opportunities in pharmacy practice. As an attendee at the clinical meeting, I was able to network, present my research project, and meet residency directors to inquire about their residency program. With the help of this organization and my mentors, I obtained a residency position, and the rest is history.
