Greetings,

I am Dr. Soheyla Mahdavian serving as the faculty advisor for FAMU-SSHP. I am very excited to head this organization for the 2023-2024 school year.

1. What is your most favorite SSHP memory?
In 2017, SSHP planned and organized a multidisciplinary health fair for the Big Bend Homeless coalition. FAMU Nursing and FSU COM came to assist with screenings, food was catered/donated from a local business, and other vendors volunteered and/or donated items for the community. This is a favorite SSHP memory because although I met with the e-board to advise and plan logistics, the e-board and members took the lead for the entire event and it was a success. I was impressed by the dedication the Student leaders took to ensure the event was well attended by the community, especially for this population. The professionalism, initiative, and enthusiasm for community outreach are attributes of an exceptional Pharmacist. Seeing these Student Pharmacists in action made me very proud, especially as a Pharmacist.

2. Provide a fun fact that you are comfortable sharing publicly.
Not sure if this is a “fun” fact, but it’s a fact nonetheless. Currently doing a 50 state challenge, to run a half marathon in all US states. So far, I’ve checked off 15 states and DC.

3. Why students should join SSHP?
Joining SSHP is a great opportunity for networking, especially for those who desire to obtain a position in clinical pharmacy specifically because post-graduate clinical training through residencies and fellowships will be needed for clinical positions. Networking may not seem as important during the first years in Pharmacy School, but the world of Pharmacy is small and developing professional relationships begin now! Being a member of SSHP can present opportunities to meet Residency Directors, Pharmacy Directors, and Clinical Pharmacists at the local level, state level through FSHP, and the National level though ASHP. It’s never too early to start networking for your career.
